The MTR

"MTR’s mission is to raise urban education as a valid and necessary response to the gospel. Our mission is to challenge and confront Christians with urban education as a worthy vocation and to equip these future teachers for long term success within the classroom.

The Memphis Teacher Residency is a Memphis-only non-profit organization whose mission is to recruit, equip and retain excellent Christian teachers to work in Memphis’ urban areas where the need for strong educators is most critical. We are a Memphis-only partnership involving the MTR, Union University and urban secondary schools.

The residency model is one adapted from the medical field and provides the opportunity to get classroom learning along with practical experience. We believe this is the best way to become an effective urban school educator. "

Do I even need to tell you how excited I am about beginning this new phase of my life? I'll give you a hint: the answer is somewhere between "ridiculously" and "supremely." Looking forward to posting more about urban education in the upcoming months.
