Injustice... and victory.

Tennessee has a system of keeping track of student achievement that includes predictive scores on the TCAP based on students' past achievement.

Of my students... 175 7th graders... there are 38 who have a 0.1% chance of scoring proficient on the science TCAP. To be proficient, you must get 67% of the questions right. Tennessee's test is one of the easiest in the nation. There are 38 kids who have one tenth of a percent of getting 67% of the questions right on the easiest test that any kids in the country take. This percentage is calculated by the state of TN, based on students' past achievement, which is research-proven to depend on the quality of their teachers. INJUSTICE.

171 out of 175 of my students have less than a 50% chance of scoring proficient on the science TCAP. INJUSTICE.

However... there are victories in the injustice.

Richard, according to the state of TN, has a 0.3% chance of passing the test. He scored proficient on our predictive assessment. Victory.

Juan has a 1.5% chance. He scored proficient.

Janely... 2.0%. Proficient.

Michael... 2.9%. Proficient.

Kay... 3.0%. Proficient.

Kayla... 3.7%. Proficient.

Ben... 6.9%. Special ed. Proficient.

There are 14 other kids I could list the same way. Still only 25 of 175.... BUT it's a beginning. And it's more than the 4 that "they" say "should" pass.

  1. 25 kids who believe that they can accomplish something that others say is impossible is a GREAT start!! I know that your work is hard and at times exhausting. But you are doing wonderful things and God is using you. Keep at it :)
